Catch Me Outside

Oh hey there….

…I see our paths have crossed! Let me tell you a bit about myself!

Did I mention I’m kind of a skull expert? Spooky science rules.

I’m a big environmental nerd.  My idea of a great day definitely involves a hike, and hopefully some cool wildlife. I went to school for Biology and Environmental Studies at a small school in Upstate New York (nowhere near NYC, if you can take a day trip there you’re not upstate, I have very strong feelings on this). I thought I wanted to work as an aquatic biologist, maybe for the government, or possibly do environmental consulting for a private company. After school I bounced around to a couple internships, some I liked a lot, some not so much. The one that really impacted me though was at an environmental education facility in New Jersey – shout out to the School of Conservation! Here, I learned about environmental education, and got to learn a whole bunch of cool new skills like how to belay kids up a climbing wall, blacksmithing, and what to do if you see a black bear (Hint: don’t run). But my biggest takeaway was that I really liked teaching!

Look it’s me! I threw on my most fashionable waders to do wood turtle surveys in Stokes State Forest in Northern NJ, and bumped into this little lady!

So that’s where I am now! I’m currently working on my masters degree to be a high school biology teacher. I love the idea of getting students excited about science the same way that I am, help them understand how important biology is in their daily life. And in this same vein, I just generally love getting everyone excited about going outside and being more sustainable in their own lives. I think that by taking some small steps a few at a time, we can all have a better relationship with the world around us.

So what do you say? Are you ready to learn?
