Authors of Ready, Set, Science offer a sequence for supporting learning from science investigations (p.131). They title Phase I, “GENERAL STAGING ACTIVITIES.”

Included in this stage are:

  • Determining what learners know
  • Providing background knowledge
  • Building student motivation

The way they map it out in their example, Phase 1 took about a third of their overall face time with kids.¬† That’s alot!!

We are going to start this work this week by introducing Science STARS to 5 possible investigation areas through 7 minute highly interactive stations:

Food¬† – Hannah (with Alexis’s and Sara Scott’s help)

Music and Dance – Brianna (with Jasmin’s help)

Trash – Julia (with Logan’s help)

Energy – Aaron (with Demeke’s help)

Biodiversity – Sara (with Yen’s help)
