I recently accepted a science department head position in Nashville, TN and will be teaching 7th and 8th grade science and coaching Science Olympiad. I’m really excited! The position is at a small independent Catholic school and after seeing the school and speaking with other faculty, I know that it is the absolute best place for me to start my career. I couldn’t be happier.
I’m starting off the year accompanying the rising 7th grade students to Rhode Island to do water quality investigations – very similar to what we did in Michael’s class with the Get Real! Science camp at Lake Ontario. It will be the perfect opportunity to get to know the 7th graders while doing some inquiry-based work. I’m super excited.
Overall, I know that next year will be a challenge. Being in a leadership position as a first year teacher is a little intimidating, but I know that I have what it takes to succeed. St. Bernard Academy is certainly putting me in a perfect position to be an agent of change within the school.
