The next weekend – April 17th and 18th – STARS received a Young Filmmakers Scholarship Award that granted them V.I.P. Status to attend the Fast Forward Film Festival, a festival run by an independent organization committed to community engagement in environmental action. One of our films, Changes (a music video), was chosen as one of the top 12 finalists from 96 submissions (adults and youth, expert and novice moviemakers). Thus it was screened both nights – the first at the Little Theater and the second at a gala at the George Eastman House. At the gala, awards were announced. Your Science STARS won two awards, each with a $250 cash prize. Changes won runner up in Most Inspiring, and all Science STARS won a Young Filmmakers award. Michael Ramsey, senior STAR, performed the rap in the movie for the audience live that night. You know this, but Michael Ramsey and I were also on WXXI, the local public radio station where Michael did a piece of his rap for the community there too.
